This is an Italian variety that is now happily growing on our Langton vineyard in Mt Barker. The fruit is not strongly flavoured and so as to add complexity and interest, we ferment all of the juice in 5 year old French oak; the aim being to develop palate weight and texture without picking up any strong oak flavours that would overwhelm its delicate fruit characters. To retain freshness, it’s not kept in oak for too long (approx. 4 months) before a light filtration and bottling.
Bright and clear with a touch of green gold.
Has a subtle but complex nose; it’s slightly floral with some delicate perfumed characters together with a light spiciness and a fragrant hint of white pepper.
This is light and delicate on the palate. It is not overtly fruity; it has some delicate citrussy flavours together with a spiciness and that textural quality which makes it such a good food wine. It could be matched with a spicy meal; the wine’s fresh acidity providing it’s crisp and zesty clean finish.
