The 2020 season had its challenges for the winemakers; it was the earliest start on record and with the fine and dry conditions, every variety then ripened in fairly quick succession! Mt Barker had quite moderate day time temperatures and, along with the cooler nights, these conditions were well suited to our blocks of Pinot Noir. Planted to a number of clones, these vines are now 20+ years old and are suiting the cooler sites on the property.
a medium deep, crimsony red.
Lovely aromas of cranberries, a hint of freeze dried strawberry and some blackcurrant & apple characters, all complexed by the light smokiness picked up from the oak maturation…ie, like a delicious smoky fruit tea.
This Pinot has lots of vibrant fruit, particularly raspberry fruit with delicious dark chocolate characters. These rich, concentrated fruit flavours are well integrated after a period of maturation in once and twice used French oak, also adding a complexing savoury character. It has good palate weight and the dusty, lightly drying tannins contribute to its good length of flavour.
Delicious drinking, this would be a good match with a wide range of foods, from barbequed fish to a rare beef dish.
