Frankland River Shiraz
Shiraz from Frankland River is arguably our strongest variety from this isolated, but super consistent sub-region of the fabulous Great Southern. Coupling this with it being one of the best seasons in decades means we think it’s a pretty handy wine. The vines entered the season with full soil profiles following late spring rains which set the vines up for a great start. We then experienced nothing other than warm days and mild nights throughout the growing season; some welcome rain mid vintage helped maintain leaf condition on the reds as they then finished ripening over the long, dry, warm autumn. All this Shiraz was harvested in late March, with 7% finishing its ferment in new oak barriques and kept on its yeast lees for added complexity. Minimal fining and filtration has ensured we’ve maximized the inherently generous fruit characters in this wine.
A deep, dark and rich crimsony red.
Has aromas of sweet, vibrant red fruits and generous, dark brooding plum fruit characters, with just a hint of pepperiness and rich beetroot earthiness.
Very well flavoured as expected from Frankland fruit; it has loads of rich and vibrant red fruit characters along with hints of crushed violets. The intense plum fruit flavours are well integrated and beautifully balanced by the powdery tannins which give great structure to the wine. Its fine acidity contributes to its great length of flavour and will ensure this Shiraz continues to drink well over many years to come.
