Nick Stacy - Sales and Marketing
Nick Stacy of West Cape Howe Wines was born Nicholas Whitmore to John and Jan Stacy on the 10th of October; the same day as the famous Italian composer Giuseppe Verdi who’s oft quoted line was;
"Oh blessed a thousand times the peasant who is born, eats and dies without anybody bothering about his affairs".
Reluctantly Nick reveals that after being allegedly born in East Fremantle early 1968 during an earthquake, Nick’s real education outside of Applecross Primary and All Saints College most certainly didn’t involve his East Fremantle Hospitality and Tourism course, rather it involved travelling throughout Australia working at various restaurants in various capacities before returning to his home town to run an already successful restaurant.
The hospitality and travel bug had well and truly bit by then, but Nick’s real involvement with wine began with a memorable glass of local West Australian Cabernet Sauvignon provided by father John at a BBQ age14 which soon turned into an underage cellar age 17 and since then Nick hasn’t looked back.
On a rare restauranteur's summer holiday in 1993 ‘down south’ in Denmark WA, Nick shared a bottle with John and Wendy Wade and a day later became the West Australian Agent for their then unheard of Howard Park and Madfish Bay Wines.
T3 WA (nee Western Wines) was born. A tiny rented South Perth office, two trestle tables, one phone and a soon to be full order book.
A decade on, Nick’s business had seen a who’s who of wineries launched or put on the map in WA by his company, including the launch in 2000 of West Cape Howe Wines. Nick’s first business plan was not only to be profitable but also to add value to his organisation via prestigious agencies but most importantly relied on the quality of his team.
With legendary enthusiasm, good humour and a keen sense of his company’s ethics and philosophies Nick created one of Australia’s finest fine wine wholesalers in less than a decade.
As Nick moved ever closer to his 10th year in the business, he coveted the benefits for his customers that national distribution offered and after considering how to best to supply his existing clients and principles, as well as create opportunities for new business, in the middle of 2001 Western Wines joined the like minded T3 Fine Wines Australia team successfully merging.
This was followed by yet another business merge, with the international LVMH Group taking a control of T3 Fines Wines Australia in 2003 and at this time, Nick decided to change career path and joined one of his best wine producers, West Cape Howe Wines, Denmark as the Sales and Marketing Manager.
Nick works in the business day to day, overseeing all aspects of sales (both domestic and export), brand development & marketing. He continues to provide growth and new opportunities for West Cape Howe with his 17 years of wine experience, covering wholesale, retail, restaurant and liquor outlets.
